The British Urban Film Festival can reveal today that Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith have been unveiled as script judges for this year’s live script reading competition. The climax will take place once again at Channel 4 headquarters on Friday 18 September as part of BUFF 2015.
Daniel and Marlon will be presiding over this year’s competition entries (together with the writer & director Julius Amedume) from which 3 will be shortlisted for a Channel 4 BUFF award in addition to their script being performed.
Daniel and Marlon are two of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow 2014 and co-wrote the four part crime series Run. Following the highly acclaimed series the pair went on to win the RTS Award for Best Drama Writer and the BAFTA Television Craft Award for Breakthrough Talent.
Daniel and Marlon are now currently adapting Courttia Newland’s novel, The Gospel According to Cane, for Cowboy Films and the BBC as well as writing an original drama series, Pawn, for Kudos and the BBC. They are also developing a TV series based on Gareth Edward’s 2010 film Monsters for Channel 4 and have been commissioned to write a feature film, My Brother’s Keeper, with DNA Films and FilmFour. Julius directed last year's script readings and returns for a second stint at the helm.
Emmanuel Anyiam-Osigwe, director of the British Urban Film Festival, said: “In the space of just 3 years, The BUFF scriptwriting competition has become the go to place for new and emerging talent to showcase their work to the people that matter. Our new line-up of script judges will ensure that quality continues to prevail and that talent is rewarded”.
Submission Guidelines:
•Scripts: must be no less than 20 pages and no more than 60.
•The early bird deadline for submissions is 23.59pm, Friday 29th May 2015 (Fees are non-refundable at £59).
•The final deadline for submissions is 5.00pm, Monday 29th June 2015
•Submission fees rise to £75 from Saturday 30th May onwards.
•All forms of narrative style and all genres are accepted - the definition of an urban film... is down to you!
